The time it will take to complete this project will depend on how soon we can raise the funding. Initial rough estimates for the cost of building this skate park are between 1.5 to 2 million dollars, depending on the size of the skate structure and how much of the work and materials can be provided by the community.
Main Areas of Expense:
- Structural design and rendering in a permit-ready AutoCAD file
- Excavating the site, routing or rerouting utility lines and drainage pipes
- Materials
- Concrete
- Rebar
- Forms
- Rails and coping
- Lamp posts
- Etc.
- Labor (skilled and unskilled)
Cost-Lowering Factors:
- Volunteer labor
- Donated materials (concrete, rebar, metal rails & coping)
- Skilled contributions (lamp post electrical installation, tile work…)
Some funding may also be found in the form of grants specifically designed to help fund skate park construction.
Upkeep:
The skate park is not expected to require an increase in regular maintenance from what the green space is already receiving (mowing, trash removal, etc).
Fundraising:
Fundraising will not begin until we have approval from City Council for the project and a financial management structure (a non-profit organization) with which to manage the funds. When these are in place, sponsors will be able to donate funds through this site.
