The Lynden Skatepark Project

My name is Wendy Talené and I am a mother, author and entrepreneur in Lynden. My son is an avid skateboarder. In April 2026, I had initiated a plan to head up a community project to build a skatepark in Lynden. However, I am pulling out of the skatepark project at this time for a few reasons:

  • The economy is heading in a direction that is likely to make it very difficult for people to donate to a project of this kind.
  • Although I had put together a 4-year timeline for raising funds and completing the project, my own skateboarder son will be graduating and launching into his adult life, likely elsewhere, by the time the project is complete.
  • Demands on my time in my own businesses have multiplied recently.
  • I had had in mind that a certain number of skateboarders in Lynden would have had to show strong interest by a certain time in order for me to consider the project viable, and I have only had 12 make contact. My attempts to contact those that have filled out registrations through the webpage have had no responses.

I put quite a lot of time and research into the project and have learned a great deal which I have documented in a well-organized outline as well as a draft of a City Council proposal, including a very strong bid from Evergreen Skateparks. If anyone should show any interest in taking up a skatepark project in the future, I would be more than happy to hand over what I’ve learned and written so far for them to build off of if they choose. Contact me if you are interested.
